Since we are constantly being bombarded by statistics on TV and on social media sites, here are 4 toolkits from the U.S. Census Bureau aimed at children (but don’t be ashamed or scared to learn from them if you’re an adult) to help us learn more at different levels.

The Website Has Been Updated with National Unemployment Data thru March 2024.

Some of the February 2024 state and municipality updates have been posted.  I am working on the rest of the February 2024 state and municipality updates.

International Trade

International Trade as of 

November 2023

The November 2023, annualized deficit, export and import U.S. International Trade charts have been added to the bottom of this page.

Exports decreased in November 2023 from October 2023 ($258.5 to $253.7 billion).  Imports decreased in November 2023 from October 2023 ($323.0 to $316.9 billion).  The trade deficit decreased in November 2023 from October 2023 ($64.5 billion to $63.2 billion).

National Unemployment Updates

National Unemployment as of March 2024

The March 2024 total unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) decreased from the February 2024 total unemployment rate (3.9% to 3.8%).  The unemployment rates (seasonally adjusted) decreased for people with no disabilities (3.7% to 3.6%) but increased for people with a disability (7.0% to 8.5%).

The March 2024 total unemployment rate (non-adjusted) decreased from the February 2024 total unemployment rate (4.2% to 3.9%).  The unemployment rate (non-adjusted) decreased for people with no disabilities (4.0% to 3.7%) but increased for people with a disability (7.7% to 8.6%).

Unemployment rates for disabled people is double the rate for non-disabled people 3.6% compared to 8.5% (seasonally adjusted) and 3.7% compared to 8.6% (non-seasonally adjusted).

State Unemployment

1 state has a higher number of average monthly number of unemployed in 2023 (thru November) than 2008.

186 states have a higher number of average monthly number of unemployed in 2023 (thru November) than 2022.

2024 Elections

I have updated the unemployment data for Governors and Senators.  There are 11 governorships and 34 senate seats up for election in 2024.

The percentage and number of those unemployed over 52 weeks increased for the month of July 2023 increased (10.0%) 580,677 from June 2023 (9.8%) 568,075. (See Unemployed 52 Weeks or Longer)

 

 

Municipality Unemployment

Municipality Unemployment as of November 2023

381 of the 393 municipalities (96.9%) have an average monthly number of unemployed lower in 2023 than 2008. (November 2023)

(48 states have lower average monthly number of unemployed lower in 2023 than 2008 in all of their municipalities); 4 states have a higher average monthly number of unemployed in 2023 than 2008 in all of their municipalities)

Smoothed Seasonally Adjusted Metropolitan Area Estimates Are Current as of November 2023.
